Superyacht Tender Boats: Protector RIBs for Canada

A Protector tender for your superyacht

Getting owners, guests, and gear from superyacht to shore, and back again for a night out, a dive, or a fishing run, is a tender's job every day at anchor. Protector RIBs are built for exactly that duty, alongside the America's Cup, SailGP, and Coastguard fleets that expect the same reliability.

Built for Tender Duty

Getting owners, guests, and gear from superyacht to shore, and back again for a night out, a dive, or a fishing run, is a tender's job every day at anchor. Protector RIBs are built for exactly that duty, alongside the America's Cup, SailGP, and Coastguard fleets that expect the same reliability.

A superyacht tender has to do more than ferry people ashore. It carries provisions, launches divers, and stands by as a chase boat when the weather in the anchorage turns. Protector RIBs, built by Rayglass in Auckland, New Zealand, have carried that workload for owners, captains, and crew in more than 17 countries, backed by Rayglass's record supplying official boats to the America's Cup since 2000 and SailGP since 2018. Protector Boats Canada, based in Vancouver, is the exclusive Canadian dealer for Protector RIBs. The Vancouver-based team specifies and commissions every superyacht tender delivered in Canada. Why Owners and Captains Choose Protector for Tender Duty

Protector's reputation as a yacht tender runs on more than dealer marketing. Rayglass has supplied official umpire, patrol, and photography boats to the Louis Vuitton Cup and America's Cup since 2000, including the Auckland, Valencia, San Francisco, and Bermuda editions, work that has included partnering with Emirates Team New Zealand. Rayglass has also been the official chase-boat supplier to SailGP since 2018. The same hulls serve Coastguard, military, and research fleets, detailed on our commercial vessels page, across more than 17 countries. Twenty-four Protectors were built for a joint America's Cup program in 2019, and from 2021, 26 ex-America's-Cup boats were refitted for New Zealand Coastguard duty. That refit record reflects the service life Protector RIBs are built for.

Sizing is part of that same discipline. The Protector range spans compact RIBs up to larger models that live in a garage or launch from davits aboard the mothership.

Recommended Models for Tender Duty

Two Protector ranges suit superyacht tender duty best: the open Chase series and the enclosed-cabin Targa series. Within each, the larger sizes have the deck space, fuel range, and sea-keeping that tender duty demands.

380 Chase and 410 Chase: Open Tenders

The 380 Chase and 410 Chase are the models Protector Boats Canada recommends first for superyacht tender duty: open-cockpit RIBs with the deck space for guests, dive gear, or watersports equipment, and enough freeboard for open-water runs between yacht and shore.

Ordering a Protector Tender

For a tender, 'how you'll use the boat' starts with the mothership: where it will stow, how it launches (over the side, from davits, or towed) and how many guests and crew it needs to carry. We carry those constraints into the 3D design proposal alongside layout, colour, upholstery, engines, electronics, and seating, then take care of commissioning and handover in British Columbia. The full three-step process is outlined on our ordering page.

  1. Consultation

Tell our team how you'll use the boat. Every Protector sold in Canada is specified to one customer before it's built.

  2. Design & build

You sign off a full 3D design proposal, covering layout, colour, upholstery, engines, electronics, and seating, before it's built to order in Auckland, with ongoing consultation throughout the build.

  3. Delivery & commissioning

We take care of delivery and commissioning, then hand your Protector over on the water in British Columbia.
