Protector Boats Canada

Built for enclosed, offshore-capable running

The 380 Targa is one of Protector's enclosed-cabin Targas, built around a fully enclosed cabin rather than an open helm station. That distinction matters as much offshore as it does at the dock: the 380 gives its crew a hard-topped, weather-sealed cabin with a fully enclosed head compartment tall enough to stand in, the kind of fitting that turns a long passage into something liveable rather than an endurance exercise.

At 11.5 metres (38 feet) with a 9.5-foot internal beam, the interior is wide enough to move through without the sideways shuffle smaller RIBs demand. Full walk-around deck access carries that same thinking to the exterior: crew can move from bow to stern along a continuous side deck, which matters when docking, retrieving swimmers, or handling ground tackle in a seaway without climbing over cabin structure.

Power runs from 700 to 1,350 hp, covering everything from a straightforward offshore build to a demanding commercial specification. Fuel capacity is 900 litres, sized for the range a coded offshore boat is expected to hold.

That coding is not incidental. The 380 Targa is coded to Category B, rated for operation up to 60 nautical miles from a safe haven, a compliance threshold that separates a boat built for sheltered-water outings from one built to be taken seriously offshore.

In practice, that combination of enclosed cabin, wide-beam layout, walk-around access, and Category B coding puts the 380 Targa at the point where a serious recreational owner's offshore ambitions and a commercial operator's requirements overlap. Rayglass builds every 380 Targa in Auckland to the same hull construction standard as every Protector in the range, then finishes it to whichever brief gets it to the water. From there, our team handles delivery and commissioning in British Columbia.

Configuration and options

Within the 700–1,350 hp range, engine choice, drivetrain, and helm layout are set to match how the boat will be used — a private offshore cruiser and a commercial platform share the same hull but rarely the same specification. Cabin layout, upholstery, colour, electronics, and seating are addressed individually for each build, in keeping with the practice of specifying every Protector to one customer before it's built. These details are worked through directly with our team during the design phase, ahead of the build starting in Auckland.
